Azhwar Thirunagari Temple on the banks of River Thamirabarani River Thamirabarani (தாமிரபரணி) is known for its historical and spiritual significance, being the birth place of Tamil language, among many other significant aspects. One interesting association that Tamirabarani River has had, in its long and illustrious history of spiritual significance, is its association with the saint Sri Ramanuja, the founder of Sri Vaishnava philosophy. Long before the Avatar of Sri Ramanuja, Nammazhwar (நம்மாழ்வார்) who was hailed as the leader of the Vaishnava fold by Sri Aalavanthar , was born in Azhwar Thirunagari (Alwar Thirunagari - ஆழ்வார் திருநகரி), which is located 25 Kms South-East of Tirunelveli, along the banks of River Thamirabarani. Sri Ramanuja Jayanthi 2017 (1000th anniversary)

Sri Ramanujacharya was born in 1017 CE at Sriperumpudur in Tamil Nadu, India.  Sri Ramanuja expounded the Visishtadvaita philosophy. He is worshipped as an incarnation of Sri Adi Seshan in Kali Yuga. His one thousandth (1000th) birth anniversary is currently being celebrated throughout the world by His followers.

Born in the first half of the 8th century in Kaladi, Kerala, Adi Shankara established Maths (Peethas) all over India and is credited with the revival of Sanathana Dharma during His period.
